First rule about Book Club.................

My 8yr daughter, Charlie, along with 7 of her classmates, belong to a girls book club. Charlie has always love to read and after talking with some of the other school moms, it seemed that she wasn't the only one with the passion. (I was never much of a reader as a kid, the only reading I remember was for school and the Sweet Valley High series)

One of the moms suggested a monthly book club as a way to get our girls more involved with reading. What a great opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with our daughters doing something we both loved. Book selection is simple and helps the girls feel they are in charge of the books. Each girl selects a book and passes it around so everyone can see what each girl picked. Between the girls and moms 3 are chosen, voted, and majority rules.

Last month's pick was chosen by the moms as only one girl wanted to read it. It wasn't  the usual type and wasn't thrilled as this book was about a dog. I voted for this book for two reasons: 1 - I didn't like the others that where picked and 2 - the other moms like it. I admit I buckled under...................peer pressure. It wasn't as sappy as I thought it would be and the girls surprised themselves by really liking it.

Our next meeting is when we are on Spring Break, we decided that we would add a fun twist. The choosed book would also be a movie. We will read the book, discuss and then watch the movie version.

Oh and the first rule of book club is.................

try and finish the book before the day of the meeting.
